Community-Based and Hospital based Geriatric Service Project in Anambra and Ebonyi States Nigeria

It is in line with the organization’s goal that community and hospital based geriatric project were provided in Anambra and Ebonyi States in Nigeria in 2018. A team of health professionals- nurses, doctors, laboratory scientists, optometrists/ophthalmologists, physiotherapists, and pharmacists- in collaboration with mission/relief and administrative team visited communities in the state to provide nursing, medical/consultation, laboratory, optometry, physiotherapy, spiritual/psychological, pharmaceutical and social welfare services. Over 1000 elderlies aged 55 years, were reached.

In community project:

✅ Clients received drugs based on complaints and diagnosis,

✅ All received insecticide treated net,

✅ others on need bases received walking sticks to prevent fall and joint strains.

In hospital based project:

✅ Geriatric clinics were instituted and supported in community health centers to improve accessibility of health care.

✅ Health care providers were also and provided with monthly technical assistance mentoring during facility visit by ME project team.

In addition to community and hospital based projects, enrollment of the elderly into national health insurance scheme is envisioned by next year.
